Never give up giving up

OK about giving up (tabacco) smoking. It's a bitch of a habit and the one drug I have struggled with. Here's some tips that worked for me and that might help others:

1) You have to make the decision to give up. Stop. No compromises.

2) Once you have resolved this, you have to keep trying until you succeed. Never give up giving up

3) Gizmos, patches, etc may help prepare you but it's down to WILL POWER to get you out

4) Take one day at a time, every day presents a new chance, a new beginning.

5) Set goals & rewards ie when you go a week without smoking, go treat yourself to something NICE

6) Avoid smokers during the period you are giving up

7) You might have to change your environment to help you - since one can associate certain places / habits with smoking

8) Make sure you are in a stress free enviroment as much as possible during this period. Take a holiday or go and study?

9) Avoids pubs & drinking - it really weakens your resolve.

10) Every time you get a craving, try substitution - something healthy that is have some fruit, sugar free gum etc.

11) Don't make a big fuss about telling people you are giving up. Just do it quietly. After a month, you are doing well but still in the red danger zone: not in the clear yet. After three months it's still an amber condition. One year is good: you are in the green and able to say you have given up. But take care not to relapse, it can happen sooo damn easily.

12) If you smoke cannabis, don't mix tobacco with it - that's the stuff that you really get hooked on.

13) You will feel a hell of a lot better once you have quit. You wont be sick so often, and you won't age so quick !!!!

It CAN be done. Good luck !
